Design Foundation

Pre-degree Programme created for 16-20year olds

  • Designed, wrote and compiled eight month course and curriculum and additionally wrote a ‘Fast Track’ foundation condensed 8 week programme.

  • Course was developed to enhance design thinking for students from all backgrounds as preparation for degree programmes delivered at AOD (Motion Graphics, Visual Communication, Fashion Design, Fashion Design and Marketing and Interior Design).

  • Classes included: Design Development, Sketchbook and Drawing, the Zeitgeist Class, Language of Design, Cultural and Creative Studies

Modules:

 

Sketchbook + Ideation

Through this module, students learn how to create and upkeep a sketchbook. Different techniques and mediums will be explored and experimented with, students will build up a designers sketchbook which will inform design practice in their future degrees.

Design Development

Through this module, students are exposed to new ways of thinking and approaching design. Through lectures and workshops covering the fundamental building blocks of design, students learn the necessary skills to advance to first year of any design course.

Zeitgeist

This module comprises of a lecture series covering a variety of topics themed around the ‘World of Design’. This module is any designers ‘must knows’. The lecture series discusses icons, influencers, trends and covers art movements and famous artists.

 

Maker Project

Understanding 3D and product is key for any designer in any practice- this module is a 'live' brief covering the fundamentals of 3D design for commercial use and to be retailed.

Language of Design

Throughout this module, students will be introduced to the fundamentals expected upon entering a university degree programme. The course will prepare them to step into their first year with confidence and equipped with the knowledge and strategies to achieve the best from university learning.  

Visual Styles + Illustration

Illustration is a personal exploration and everyone has their own style. Exploring visual styles, covering photography, mixed media, observational drawings, collage etc. The aim of this module is to introduce the students to drawing through a series of creative workshops.
